site updates

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

Wordpress is awesome. After enabling a couple plugins and hacking up the php a bit, I’ve made the site easier to navigate. I added Technorati tags to all of the posts. Also, the blogroll and links are XFN friendly. Feel free to leave any comments or suggestions using the form at the bottom of every post. You can also sign up to receive e-mail notices of any updates.

In other news, my girlfriend brought me pretty flowers :-D . Anyway, I should probably get to sleep so I can get up early to start my homework that is due tomorrow 8O .

Regarding the Death of my Mother

Monday, June 20th, 2005

My mother died on Saturday, 11 October 2003. We had found out that she had breast cancer in April of 1998. But, I knew that death was a part of life and that these things were inevitable. There was nothing unfair about it. We knew the cancer would take her life long before it actually did.

Yet More Photos

Added more photos to the gallery: [ misc, Last Weeks at JHU ]

I also changed the layout of the gallery so it better matches the rest of this site. I also did some experimenting with mod_rewrite to make the urls more pretty. Right now, some things don’t work, but hopefully they won’t be noticeable.

Totally Spaced

Sunday, September 21st, 2003

So apparently the Emerson String Quartet came to JHU and I missed them. I could have gotten in very cheaply too. I remember seeing a flyer advertising the event and I remember making a mental note of it. Of course, I didn’t have anything with which to make a more concrete note. Oh well.

Summer Transitions

Thursday, August 21st, 2003

I finished my internship at Northern Trust. I found it to be a very rewarding experience. We drove home on Saturday. We left early in the afternoon, but with traffic and the weather, what should have been a six to seven hour drive from Chicago to Pittsburgh took about ten. Then we woke up early on Sunday to take my uncle to Baltimore. I got to drive! While I was in Baltimore, I visited my friend. We had a good time. Campus is really nice when there are not many people around. Later that day, we drove back. That’s a lot of driving for one weekend.

On Monday, I finally got to use my computer again. I set it up and everything was working fine. Then I broke it. The motherboard is suposed to support up to one gigabyte of memory, but for some reason it can’t handle more than half of that. So I decided to update the firmware. Then, I tried to reboot the computer and it would not. Now I am peeved because the machine is completely non-functional, and I cannot access many of my files because they are software stripped across two disks. My only hope now is that I win an ebay auction for a replacement motherboard. Of course, even if I win it, it is not guaranteed to work. In the meanwhile, I installed Debian on my laptop, which is “working” after a fashion. I think that I will switch to Redhat soon.
